  • Bio: Dan Rowley is currently a full Professor of Management, and has been named the Wells Fargo Chair at the Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. He is also begun to develop a national reputation for his work in strategic planning on college and university campuses. Between 1992 and 1995, he headed the development of a strategic planning process at the University of Northern Colorado. Beyond his experience in business strategic planning, this particular effort was designed to uniquely fit the needs and characteristics of public higher education, an area that is gaining broad national interest. He is the lead author of several scholarly articles on the subject of strategic planning. He is also lead author on 5 scholarly books and one associated workbook on strategic planning in higher education published by Jossey-Bass Publishers, Inc. between 1997 and 1999.
    Working with Dr. Herb Sherman of Southampton College (LIU), he also was the lead author on three successor scholarly books on strategy implementation in colleges and universities. These books were released by Jossey-Bass in 2001 and by University Press in 2002 and 2004. Along with Dr. Sherman and Dr. Barry Armandi of SUNY-Old Westbury, Dr. Rowley wrote a general text book on strategic management which is currently in press at University Press and will be released in October, 2005. Dr. Sherman and Dr. Rowley have also presented to national and international conferences and have coauthors two articles on strategic planning in higher education. As a result of his work, he was named the Monfort College Scholar of the year as well as the University of Northern Colorado Scholar of the year in 2004.
    Dr. Rowley received his baccalaureate at the University of Colorado at Boulder in political science. He earned a masters degree in public administration at the University of Denver, and his Ph.D. in organizational management and strategic management at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has served the University of Northern Colorado as the University Strategic Planner, Chief of the PresidentÂ’s Staff, Secretary to the Board of Trustees, and as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees for Planning. In his capacity as the Strategic Planner at UNC between 1992 and 1995, he oversaw the development of strategic planning at the University, division, college and unit levels, and worked directly with the UNC Board of Trustees in developing and approving strategic management policy. In July of 1995, Dr. Rowley went back to the classroom, where he teaches courses in organizational theory as well as strategic management and policy. He assumed the Chair of the Management Department in August, 1998 and served for 7 years. He has also done extensive consulting work with several colleges and universities around the United States and the world.
