  • Bio: Michael Leonard is the director of external relations and an executive professor for the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. His professional responsibilities for the college's integrated marketing communications initiatives have led to unprecedented exposure to target audiences and resulting increases in student applications for admission, employer interest, and donations. He directs the marketing and public relations initiatives related to the colleges receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (first business school to receive the award). He teaches courses in integrated marketing communications and business communications. He consults with a human resource training firm doing marketing and public relations work and facilitating workshops for Fortune 1000 and other companies. Leonard opened and directed public relations offices in New York City for a religious organization and an Internet company, formulating and implementing strategic initiatives designed to build relationships with target audiences, place stories with the national and international press (including the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, 60 Minutes, Nightline, Today Show, BBC Television, etc.), and enhance reputation. He also started a company in Chicago, partnering with a Fortune 500 company to produce and market a recycled product. His academic career began at the University of Northern Colorados Journalism Department wherein he taught courses in advertising, mass communications, and public relations. He holds a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelors degree in communications/public relations, both from Brigham Young University.
