The Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado announced today that its graduating seniors have again reached the top 5 percent on a nationally-administered exit exam. Fall 2007 scores put Monfort seniors in the highest scoring band possible on the exam and match Monfort’s performance in previous semesters.
The Educational Testing Service Major Field Test in Business is the most widely used instrument at business schools nationwide to assess core business knowledge. Approximately 200 business schools use the exam in a given term and more than 500 use the exam over a multi-year period. All Monfort graduating seniors must complete the exam.
“Our students continue to perform at the highest levels as compared to students at peer undergraduate business programs nationwide,” said Tim Jares, interim dean of the Monfort College of Business. “In addition to our students’ collective performance, it is equally important to note that on an individual basis 30 percent of our students scored in the top 10 percent and 83 percent scored at or above the national mean. The combined performance measures suggest both breadth and depth of achievement.”
Areas covered on the exam include accounting, finance, quantitative business analysis, management, marketing, legal/social environment, international business, and economics. Fall 2007 results will be combined with Summer 2007 and forthcoming Spring 2008 results for annual reporting purposes. The results are used as a driver for curricular improvement.
Among the highly respected business schools nationwide which have administered the exam are the U.S. Air Force Academy, Drexel University, Georgia State University, Louisiana State University, University of Missouri, Radford University, Rutgers University, University of Tulsa, Washington State University, and Xavier University.
