Cynthia Evans, a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado’s journalism program in 1973, will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University in a ceremony on Friday, October 12. Evans is currently an executive professor and director of the Monfort Executive Professor Program at the University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business.
Before coming to the College of Business Evans held leadership positions with companies in the Denver area including Xcel Energy, where she was state vice president for Colorado and Wyoming, and New Century Energies, where she served as managing director, corporate communications. Previous to those positions she was publisher and editor of Colorado Business Magazine, and director of Colorado public relations for US WEST.
Evans is active in community service. She is a current board member of Junior Achievement and the Mountain States Better Business Bureau. She is also a trustee of the Delta Dental Plan of Colorado. Past board positions included the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau, the Southeast Business Partnership, and Mile High United Way.
Nominators praised her for her ability to bring business leadership traits and experiences to the classroom. “Cynthia is clearly an outstanding role model for UNC’s business students: success in her career, volunteerism to the business community, and dedication to making the world a
better place. You can always count on her to participate and she delivers every time. She exhibits ethical behavior, integrity, leadership, and positive energy in a very high profile way,” said one nominator. “Cynthia excels at bringing her extensive real-world experience into the classroom for the benefit of all her students,” said another nominator.
The Alumni Association of the University of Northern Colorado will honor Evans, along with five other alumni, at the Honored Alumni Banquet at the University Center on Friday, October 12.
