The Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado today announced the appointment of Timothy Jares as the college’s interim dean. Jares will assume the one-year appointment on July 1, upon the departure of Dean Joe Alexander, who accepted a position as associate dean and senior professor of performance excellence at the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Jares has served the Monfort College of Business very well over the last five years as assistant then associate dean, said University of Northern Colorado Provost Allen Huang.

He played a leadership role in managing the processes and application procedures that made the Monfort College of Business the first and only business college to earn the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2004. He enjoys broad support from the faculty and staff and will help build on the tradition of excellence established at the Monfort College of Business over the past two decades by his predecessors.

Jares was recruited to the Monfort College of Business in 2001 as an assistant professor of finance. He was appointed assistant dean in June 2002, and associate dean in August 2005. While in the dean’s office his responsibilities have ranged from managing the budget and supporting curriculum innovation to facilitating campus and community partnerships.

My primary focus is to ensure the college’s AACSB business and accounting accreditations are affirmed as the college enters the accreditation maintenance process next year. I will also
continue efforts to enhance community partnerships that will provide practical opportunities for our students, as well as help ease the financial barriers to their attending the university.

A national search for a dean will be put into place while Jares serves as interim dean.
