The new director of the Greeley/Weld Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is Richard Pickett, an entrepreneur with experience in start-up, small, and big business. Pickett is heading up the SBDC’s efforts to assist emerging entrepreneurs and existing business owners with assistance for starting a new business, doing a business feasibility study, creating a business plan, developing a marketing plan, understanding financial statements, preparing a loan proposal, and more.
Prior to taking the SBDC position, Pickett was the co-founder and president of Inta Juice, opening two stores in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1996. He co-founded Inta Juice Enterprises, the franchising company for Inta Juice, serving as its president and chief executive officer from 2003-2007. During that time the company experienced significant local and national growth.
Prior to Inta Juice, Pickett founded and was president of Millennial Motors, an automobile brokerage company. For thirteen years he worked for Hewlett-Packard Co. in various management, sales, marketing, and product development positions. In addition he spent more than10 years in various executive sales and marketing positions with Scientific Calculations and Cape Systems, Inc., and eight years as a landscape architect after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts.
The University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business is the lead sponsor of the Greeley/Weld SBDC, serving the business community and bringing students opportunities to assist and counsel small business owners and entrepreneurs. The College and University are partners with several local organizations, including Aims Community College, the City of Greeley, and Colorado Upstate Economic Development. The Greeley Chamber of Commerce provides the physical space for the SBDC Office in downtown Greeley.
The SBDC also works in unison with the Colorado Business Resource Center (CBRC), which is housed at the Monfort College of Business. The CBRC provide students with opportunities to counsel small business start-ups, providing information and resources in the areas of marketing, management, and financing.
