The University of Northern Colorado Monfort College of Business Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team returned home with a second runner up trophy after competing in the SIFE Regional Championship in Denver on March 16. The team showcased their 16 top community outreach projects for dozens of Fortune 500 executives.
SIFE is an international organization that mobilizes university students around the world to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. The competition provided the UNC team with the opportunity to highlight the charitable and educational work they performed in the Greeley area during the year.
Some of the projects the team highlighted in the competition included Merit Badge University with the Boy Scouts of America, Identity Theft with the Colorado Attorney General and Weld County District Attorney, Go Green Greeley, the R&B Project, the Great Debate, and ethics in the classroom with the Greeley/Weld County School District. The team is credited with impacting more than 100,000 individuals with their projects.
"This is a team of highly motivated individuals who sacrifice time and effort to make a difference in the world," said Dr. Charmayne Cullom, professor of Computer Information Systems and SIFE advisor. "The caliber of each individual is indicative of quality future executives."
The UNC SIFE team members competing were Tiffany Hall, Holly Langsdorf, Brittany Davis, Kathy Holz, Michael Manning, Joshua Metherd, Lizette Salazar, Michael Roberts, Rachel Kane, Oliver Tromp, Holly Schofding and Cierra Cummins.
First place honors at the competition went to teams from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Southwest Baptist University (tied).
